I happen to see the figure (right) in the internet and thought it is a very insightful way of putting across the movement from Data to Wisdom. Allow me to elaborate:
Data. The is the field of our day to day experiences using primarily the sense organs. Almost every day we have millions of sense experiences and data derived from them. Most of the experiences or data are lost to us, because we forget or we just cannot handle too much of data. Over-abundance of data creates another problem for our limited brain to handle. So today we have data mining as a separate discipline. From this empirical sense organs that provide us data, we necessarily need to the move organised level of knowledge.
Information: When data is organised mad relevant or useful, we have information. The cataloging in a good library is an example of making the available data (in this case the number of books) available to us. Google does it excellently, since we have almost infinite amount of data in the internet and we have only limited time and energy for search the data and derive some benefits out of it. This is the rational part of our life, which makes likes regular and classify our experiences into something beneficial to ourselves.
